Well I got back from MEPS and did everything but sign my contract/join. I've been doing some research and I hear 37f (Psychological Operations Specialist) is pretty much a BS ploy to get you to sign there is pretty much no chance I would actually get selected for it considering how competitive it is, same goes for the whole 18x SF. So now I'm trying to decide between 89D (EOD) or 68w (medic). EOD seems exciting and challenging and when all things are said and done I think I can hold my head up and say I did a good job over there. Same could be said about being a whiskey. I seem pretty qualified to be a medic after all I went to school to be a nurse so I've taken a few related classes. I'm going to go see over the next week or two if they can offer me any better incentives for being a medic ie airborne or a bonus. Edited by Casino, Jun 8 2009, 06:50 PM.

Actually you can make a LOT of money as a nurse, especially as a man. The median salary in the US of a nurse anesthetist is $145,216. That is higher than a dentist, family physician, doctor of internal medicine, doctor of general practice, ect. So tell me how is working at fucking burger king working out for you? |

David Spade in Tommy Boy. Anyways, yeah, like Winter was saying, if you stick with nursing as a man, you can make some serious bank. Do you actually have your nursing school finished? My buddy's brother is an RN, and he got a placement at Mayo Clinic in Rochester right away, which was basically his pick of the bunch, since he was a man. Made good money, but didn't like the town a lot, so for the last couple years, he's been doing travel nursing with a contract company. He loves it. He gets to put in for a few locations around the country every couple months, and then they place him at one of them depending on where there are openings. He loves to ski and hike, so he's been in Wyoming a couple times, up in Washington once and went to Whistler a lot, and then in the summers and other times, he just picks places where some of our college friends are working, so he did a summer in Baltimore, and is now out in the Bay Area, looking to go to Texas late this summer, and then back to a skiing hotspot for the winter. He pretty much lives out of his jeep, but they pay him to relocate, pay for a furnished apartment, and he only really works nights, so it's generally the easier work in the hospital, and he doesn't have to rotate night/day shifts every month and fuck with his sleep schedule so much. And he tends to get schedules like 6 on, 7 off, so he gets large gaps to run around the area he's staying in and see shit. So he pretty much gets to travel the country "for free" while working. He's going to do it for another year or two and then go back to school for nurse practitioner and settle down I think is his plan right now. But nursing as a dude -- not a bad gig. Pretty much the same thing as when chicks are engineers. EOE gives you your pick of the job market. |

I little more then 2 years in but it's just not what I want to do right now. It would also be nice to have some cash before going back to school so I'm not taking out such huge loans. I'm still trying to decide what job I want in the military and I'm really considering being a whiskey (medic) then going back to school with the money I earn and finishing up nursing. I'm a pretty smart guy and got good grades so if I had a little bit more money I would consider going back for PA.
