Yeah, I didn't see any thread about this game. I think it deserves one since out of all the other games, it looks the most promising. I'm gonna borrow what Khatib posted a while back. -- STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC -- http://www.swtor.com Star Wars: The Old Republic was confirmed to be in production in July of 2008 after a year of rumors surrounding Bioware and how it was supposedly working on Star Wars IP. Bioware has chosen to use the HeroEngine a robust engine designed to develop MMO games. SW:TOR is the first AAA title to use the highly touted engine, which includes collaborative tools that allow developers to update the game in real-time simultaneously. Currently announced as PC only title there isn't any speculation that it will be released on any consoles. What we know so far: Confirmed Classes Bounty Hunter Sith Jedi Trooper Rumored Classes (so far) None Setting 300 Years after KOTOR, 3,500 years before the Star Wars films Plot The writing team is said to include 12 full-time writers, based on videos and interviews the core story seams to revolve around skirmishes between the Jedi and Sith. After losing control of Coruscant, the Jedi and Sith have operated under an uneasy truce, which is now bordering on collapse. This of course leads to speculation about PVP and zone control, but this hasn't really been discussed at this time. Story BioWare claims that each class will have its own distinct storyline integrated with the overall game storyarc. Other quotes have mentioned that no class will share quests with any other class. Planets It is said players will have access to many planets, so far only four have been mentioned in any detail: Coruscant, Tython, Korriban and Hutta Planets that have been mentioned but have had no further detail: Alderran, Utapau, Agamar, Dathomir, and Manaan. Leveling It has not yet been confirmed if character advancement will Level- or Skill-based or some hybrid. New Class: Trooper- The Trooper is an elite combat specialist in the Republic military armed with heavy blaster rifles and nearly impenetrable armor designed by the military’s top engineers. Trained to beat almost any odds, the Trooper battles deep behind enemy lines to carry out precise, hard hitting strikes against the enemy, with a barrage of blaster-fire and a few carefully aimed firebombs. Even Sith Lords are wise to think twice before engaging in combat with the Trooper—this is what it means to be one of the Republic’s finest. http://www.swtor.com/info/classes/trooper Look at the Planets- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jm9mZ2adMs |

being a starwars fan I will look into this when it's closer to being released but I don't expect it to be very good. I have a feeling it will just be a bunch of small space instaces and the worlds will seem extremely small. I just don't see how it will work..in PvE/PvP. If I did buy this game It would only be to play another KOTOR game and that's it. I don't see it having a great endgame. Edited by Casino, May 8 2009, 11:11 PM.

You're probably right. I think it's gonna be like Guildwars or something. One thing that's for sure it that it's not gonna suck since Bioware has never made a shitty game. |

Does that indicate that you think Guildwars was good? I find that statement troubling because there is this new thing in games that Guildwars left out. It is called JUMP. |

http://kotaku.com/5274640/old-republic-is-all+talk-literally BioWare and Lucasart's Star Wars: Old Republic MMO is going to be the world's first large-scale massively multiplayer game to be all talk. As in, no text messages whatsoever. The amount of voice acting work that's going to require must be absolutely mind-blowing. And it also raises a few issues. Like, how can you personalise your character's name if the game is all talk? Either you'll constantly be referred to as "Jedi" or "that Star Wars guy", or you'll be choosing from a roster of pre-determined characters when starting the game. Jedi vs Sith Cinematic HD http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-star-wars/49936<-------Holyshit This cinematic is better than Episodes I-III combined. Edited by Voyevoda, Jun 1 2009, 07:10 PM.

You so CRAAZZYY!!
|
That vid was badass, but the more and more I hear about this game, the more and more they're hyping the single player aspects of it. Sounds like it's going to be another shitty theme park game with a care beared up excuse for PvP and no real end game since it'll be all about "epic questlines" and PvE and shit. |

I looked at other forums and they say the same thing. As much as I hope the game turns out good, I have to agree with you till I see some pvp gameplay footage. If anyone can make a great star wars game, it's bioware.......lets hope they don't fuck up. Edited by Voyevoda, Jun 2 2009, 01:49 AM.

I don't see how the PvP will work. I mean isn't the gameplay like KOTOR? as in it's turn based dice rolls etc. Edit: Trailer was badass...WTF Jedi Armour! Edited by Casino, Jun 2 2009, 07:59 AM.

Star Wars: The Old Republic E3 Demo Preview http://www.starwarsmmo.net/news/star-wars-the-old-republic-e3-demo-preview/ DIALOGUE: Welcome to Mass Effect multiplayer. We went up to an NPC and instead of the text box appearing, a mini cinematic appeared of us talking to them Mass Effect/KOTOR style. There was a man in charge, his female assistant, and an alien hunter on the side. The three of them moved, talked, and had full body/facial expressions while speaking. After a few lines were thrown back and forth between them and to us, we had a chance to talk. What would happen to appear? A Mass Effect dialogue wheel. We chose an option and lo and behold, our character was fully voiced (by the wonderful Steven Blum, well known for his portrayal of characters like Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop) with his own expressions and so on. This continued for a few more lines before we were sent off to do our duty. FINAL CONFIRMATIONS: PVP? Yes. Jumping? Yes. Looting? Yes. Crafting? Yes. Guilds? Yes. Auction Houses? Yes. Trading? Yes.
